Microbiome Informatics coursework leads to viral dark matter of the rumen ecosystem paper

Ming Yan is a PhD Candidate in OSU’s College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Science studying with Professor Zhongtang Yu. In fall 2021, Ming took one of the Microbiome Science Training Track courses (M8161 Microbiome Informatics) to learn the ins-and-outs of processing genome-scale metagenomic datasets. His particular interest was in identifying and studying the viruses, so his course project focused here with an eye towards developing a thesis chapter. A year later, after continued hard work and developing a broader collaboration at OSU and in China, Ming’s work was published in Nature Communications. Congratulations Ming and team! Congratulations Ming and team (including OSU researchers Akbar Adjie Pratama, Sripoorna Somasundaram, Matthew B. Sullivan, and Zhongtang Yu).
